A TOTAL of 39 people have been deported on an overnight flight after they failed to comply with deportation orders.

On April 30, 2025, a significant deportation operation was carried out by the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) in Ireland. A chartered flight departed from Dublin Airport, transporting 39 individuals—including 30 men, four women, and five children—from Ireland to Tbilisi, Georgia. All deportees were Georgian nationals who had previously been served with deportation orders and failed to comply with them.

Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan emphasized the necessity of such enforcement actions to maintain an effective immigration system. He stated that while voluntary departure is encouraged, non-compliance with deportation orders leaves the government with no choice but to enforce them. This operation marks the second deportation flight to Georgia this year, following a similar operation in February.

Minister O'Callaghan also highlighted that most asylum applications from Georgian nationals are likely to be rejected, sending a clear message to individuals from generally safe countries considering asylum in Ireland. He reiterated that deportation enforcement reflects the government's commitment to lawful immigration procedures and managing accommodation pressures.

The Gardaí continue to collaborate closely with the Department of Justice to implement immigration policies effectively. Further deportation operations are expected to continue as part of Ireland's efforts to uphold immigration laws and manage asylum applications.
