The European Union (EU) is nearing the finalization of significant migration agreements with Jordan and Morocco, aiming to bolster cooperation in managing migration flows to Europe. These deals are part of the EU's broader strategy to collaborate with neighboring countries in the Middle East and North Africa to address migration challenges. 

Jordan-EU Agreement
Jordan, which hosts over a million Syrian refugees, is set to conclude a comprehensive agreement with the EU. This deal is expected to include provisions for trade, energy projects, and migration control measures. The agreement is anticipated to be signed by King Abdullah in Brussels by late January or early February 2025 .
 
Morocco-EU Agreement
Morocco is also in the process of finalizing a similar agreement with the EU. The proposed deal is expected to encompass trade, energy projects, and migration control measures, mirroring the scale of the EU's recent €7.4 billion deal with Egypt . The EU has provided Morocco with over €2.1 billion between 2014 and 2022 for migration-related initiatives . 

Strategic Importance
Both Jordan and Morocco are considered crucial partners for the EU in managing migration flows. Jordan's strategic location and Morocco's role as a gateway to Europe make them key players in the EU's efforts to address irregular migration. Human Rights Considerations
The EU has emphasized that financial support under these agreements will be contingent on partner countries meeting human rights benchmarks. The EU insists that no funds will be disbursed to these countries before they fulfill the milestones outlined in the human rights clauses of the agreements .
