New IEC 2025 Draws Sent 1,914 Canada Work Permit Invitations

In the week ending May 2, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 1,914 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for work permits under the International Experience Canada (IEC) 2025 program. This brings the total number of invitations issued for the 2025 season to 65,267, surpassing the annual quota of 63,555. 

Breakdown of Invitations
The 1,914 invitations distributed this week were allocated across the IEC's three streams: 
•        Working Holiday: 1,695 invitations
•        Young Professionals: 219 invitations
•        International Co-op (Internship): Data not specified for this week
Countries receiving the highest number of Working Holiday invitations included the United Kingdom (345), France (289), South Korea (225), Japan (136), and Australia (181). 

About the IEC Program
The IEC program facilitates young individuals aged 18–35 (age limits vary by country) from over 30 partner countries to work and travel in Canada for up to two years. It comprises three categories:Working Holiday: Offers an open work permit, allowing participants to work for any employer in Canada.
•        Young Professionals: Provides an employer-specific work permit for career development.
•        International Co-op (Internship): Designed for students to gain work experience related to their field of study.The 2025 IEC season commenced on December 16, 2024, with weekly invitation rounds starting January 13, 2025.
 
Implications and Outlook
Despite exceeding the annual quota, IRCC continues to issue invitations to account for applicants who may decline or not utilize their invitations. However, the frequency and size of future draws may decrease as the season progresses. 
For individuals interested in participating in the IEC program, it's advisable to create a profile and enter the pool promptly, as opportunities may become more limited in the coming weeks.
