UAE Golden Visa vs Trump’s EB-5: Which one fits your residency goals?

Two countries are offering permanent residency options for investors and skilled professionals.

The UAE has its Golden Visa program, while the US recently revived the EB-5 Investor Visa under Donald Trump’s administration.

Both promise residency, but their terms differ, according to a report by the Times of India.

The UAE offers a renewable 10-year residency permit to investors, professionals, creatives, and property buyers. It does not require a local sponsor and allows holders to live, work, and study anywhere in the seven emirates.

Under Trump’s second term, the EB-5 program was fast-tracked and rebranded.

Investors who put at least $800,000 into approved US projects can get a Green Card within 12 to 18 months.

However, the investment must create at least 10 jobs.

In the UAE, an investment of Dh2 million (around $545,000) in property qualifies, including mortgaged or off-plan properties, as long as the developer is government-approved.

The US requires a minimum investment of $800,000 in a Targeted Employment Area or $1.05 million elsewhere, with strict job creation requirements.

Processing time and bureaucracy

The UAE process can take as little as one month, with a simple document submission and medical test.

In contrast, the US process involves lengthy reviews, audits, and detailed job creation verification.

Lifestyle and taxes

The UAE offers no personal income tax, safe cities, and good infrastructure. It is popular among Indian investors and expats. And the program is apolitical and consistent.

The US charges taxes on worldwide income but offers a Green Card with access to education and citizenship.

This program under Trump carries political associations and has faced criticism over its connection to populist policies.

Family benefits and residency flexibility

The UAE allows sponsoring family members and even domestic workers, with no residency time requirements to maintain the visa.

The US Green Card includes family but requires physical presence to avoid issues with re-entry and taxation.

The UAE Golden Visa suits those seeking a fast, simple, and tax-friendly residency option with regional access.
